Are there any restrictions on Shipping MadiRW and Amazon RW to Canada? I have someone interested in some but was sure if it is legal to do so.

Thanks,
Scott

I've had both types shipped to me (in Canada) from Allied Lutherie. I can't imagine they would do that if there are restrictions as they seem to observe restrictions on other things like Brazilian.

amazon i think is (still) no problem. madi i don“t know, but the dealer i usually buy it from (inside the EU, so no issue for me) is also issuing CITES permits for international orders or future-proofing. FYI.

What you need to do is find out exactly what woods are restricted by CITES, and what schedule they're on. Probably a browse through LMII's catalog will help. If it doesn't say they can't ship outside US (like Honduran mahogany) it probably means they can.

I am a window clerk at USPS and a guitar builder. Yes you can ship a guitar to Canada. We do it all the time. It is half the price of FedEx and UPS. As long as the length and width is under 108 inches. If you are shipping overseas, that size goes down, so you might have to detach the neck. We have a local guitar shop that sells over a million dollars in guitars. You could get their email. http://www.davesguitar.com

It has been many years since I remember anyone collecting any import dues on anything.

I don't have details on top of my head, but I do know that all rosewood and ebony species originating in Madagascar since the last few years are controlled under CITES Appendix III at the request of Madagascar. I think you'll want to be able to demonstrate (documents) supporting the origin as outside the time period and origin currently under control, but otherwise no problem.
